Happy New Year E. ! Exclamation point here seems to turn your intial into a network. My year has also been fraught with transitioning insecurities. I wrote a ton, and am submitting for the first time in a while, but I also had surgery, requiring an adjustment of lifestyle. A pacemaker, fuck, I am one of those elder folks that require hardware and software to survive. Oh well, there is nothing like having children or an aging body to make you look at mortality and failure! Congrats on completing the year. Here's to surviving 2025 with an acerbic wit and some stalwart friends.
Hello E! thanks for asking! Whew, 2024...Congrats on your success this past year!
Lessons, one of the best is discovering that Substack is a great replacement for other Social media.
Best random shit I learned.
To not to put my self worth and hope in an election. Support for a candidate is completely emotionally based, not logical, cognitive dissonance is really a thing. There are good people, and some really stupid people that do/don't deserve my attention. If I can't do anything about a thing/person/issue' it deserves no space in my head either. No free rent.
Resolutions.
You know, start the day, every day right. If the first thing you do is productive, the rest of the day feels great (I am a morning person after all). Have more fun. I retired, so I am doing a backyard adventure every month.
E, The stuff we take for granted because we live so close. A few writers (Brendan Leonard comes to mind) put out pieces about the stuff all around us, and I thought "hey that's a good idea". I live in southern Wisconsin, so outdoor stuff is always with a reasonable drive (say, 2 hours each way). Draw a circle around my town (about 120 mile radius), and there are lots of things to see and do.
Pick a day, then based on weather and how we are feeling, just go. No pre-planning allowed! Right now its a gazillion below zero, and this weekend will be our first attempt. I am leaning toward the Milwaukee area, maybe an indoor activity like a museum. Chicago is in that radius for us too, so lots of options. Hopefully by March we can do an outdoor thing, but the beauty of not planning is we can adjust on the fly.
lol heres to even more shit this year....fill up the crop duster 🤪
lol crop duster is TO THE BRIM!
this year's really going to put extra meaning behind Shit for Breakfast, 'aint it?
(laugh/sob)
one day at a time 💫
I need a "how to dress for a concert in your 60's".....
i will get back to you on that in 20 years, Silver! :D
(I'm turning 40 this year)
Looks like a fab year, with all the fits and starts and finishes that a trip around can hold. Good luck in all things!
thank you so much, R.W.W.!
Good luck to you too! May we survive these coming years and be less addicted to our dumb-smart phones.

I hope you have a great 2025! Cheers.
Marty I resonate so much with your lessons!
as someone who struggles with rumination I've very much been learning the importance of not letting things outside of you control dominate your mind.
I am SO JEALOUS that you're a morning person, haha. I want this for myself but fear I may never achieve it!
What kind of backyard adventures are you up to?
Hope you have a great 2025 too!!!! Good luck!

oh i love this so much, Marty!
I've still never been to Chicago and it HAUNTS ME.
you've inspired me, I really need to devote more effort into exploring my own backyard here in SoCal! think I'll muster a hike this weekend. :D
SoCal?!? I hope you are safe... maybe you are far enough south from the inferno...
