Oh man I laughed out loud with the "pain and suffering" cold-weather ancestors bit! LOVE. familiar!

I love the sun, but cannot deal with the heat and humidity and overall madness of (the humans in) summer.

I am a winter snow lady at heart but do cherish each season and their lessons, and always have a hard time when the shift comes in (even summer into fall).

I totally agree Claire, I do enjoy some sunshine-- it's really the heat and fear of sunburn that brings me discomfort.

Today is actually the first sunny day in a long time and I'm really enjoying how happy people in my neighborhood are.

I get so much joy out of witnessing the joy of others, so good vibes are abound this lovely summer solstice. :D

I am a summer person! I'm like a little cold blooded lizard that needs the warmth and light to function or else I just want to burrow and sleep. But I get you dreading the toooo hot temps. I don't have air conditioning either (because we used to never need it here...thanks, climate change), but I do have a couple tricks. I freeze little rice/bean bag things (we use them also as kid ice packs) that you can put on your head/neck/eyes then refreeze. We have a couple little fans and when its super hot, I put ice water in front of them so they blow colder water out.

oooo i like these tricks! I definitely think i was so resistant to summer for so long that I almost refused to adapt like a weirdo, so I'm learning lots of methods like this and last summer it really helped me to see the good in summer. You probably remember I would wear sweaters in heat waves like a psycho before, just totally unwilling to participate, but it obviously made my experience much worse.

Now that I've had ample and much needed therapy I am starting to make normal life choices, lol. I love your tips Chelsea, thank you for sharing!!!

The dermatologist has me convinced that I will disintegrate if I go outside during the summer without lathering a layer sunscreen in every nook and cranny--like buttering a toasted English muffin. Then, it’s a choice between using the sunscreen that has already expired or risk spontaneous combustion. I buy SPF 50+ but that stings just as much as SPF 15 when it mixes with the sweat that drips into the eyes. I’m with you....Autumn is nice.

Oh man, don't even get me started on how sunscreen stings, John! It's such a bummer!

Also the endless application... on my entire body all day long??

I feel very disappointed in this "future" we live in where sunscreen is still so crappy.

I have an added sunscreen disdain as well, which is that I put on make up (with sunscreen), then 1.5-2 hours later I'm like... guess... i gotta ruin all that effort with this oily sludge.

I recently bought a beastly wide brimmed hat though, so that really helps.

Also accepting that I'm going to just look like a goofy idiot instead of trying to be anything else kind of helps, haha.

Ha! Hmm..about this future we face. Several years ago, the dermatologist told me about a pill that works as a sunscreen. Well, where is this game-changer? If it exists, even in clinical trial, I’m sure the demand will surely make someone very wealthy. That’ll solve the make-up issues. Even better if it also keeps us “cool” --in a temperature way and also a non-nerdy way.

I have quite literally been mentioning wishing there was a sunscreen pill for ages! This would truly be... everything my pasty heart has ever wanted.

Ohhhhhh how I want it to be real already!

I am very much loving spring too, Pat!

All of my neighborhood flowers are popping off and it's bringing me a lot of joy, for sure.

I love the bath tub idea! I've done this a couple times during the most dire of heatwaves, but I think it'd be fun to make it more of a ritual like you're describing, that sounds really nice.

Also yes yes yes on the mid-calf-lightweight-flowy dresses! I think I honestly only own one at this point, but I bought it last summer and was like, damn... this is such a game changer. I think I need to get like 5 or more and just live that lightweight dress life this summer and you know what? Maybe this will finally be the best summer of my life for it!

Thanks for the tips, Pat!
