Wow! I love everything about this post. The commentary, the photos of the setup, the art itself. Thank you!
As to your question about what art I won't make out of fear, it's anything visual (drawing, painting, sculpture...). I can picture exactly what I want in my head. Inevitably, it comes out looking like it was created by a 3-year-old riding on a merry-go-round in a windstorm.
Hi, Scott! I'm so glad to hear you enjoyed the post! Every time I write a post I truly have no idea if there's anything of worth in it, so I really appreciate your kind words.
Visual art is absolutely daunting, I can't lie.
I have a good friend who makes really cool visual art with rulers and stencils.
The biggest art piece I have in my apartment is his and it looks incredible.
It could be helpful to break the visual-art-seal with using a style like this if that sounds of any interest.
I wish there were another way around growing artistically, but it feels like the only way through is re-learning the art of "play", which is basically allowing yourself to be bad.
That is very cool looking! I like that style. Thanks for the advice as well. Maybe I'll be able to get myself into that sort of head space at some point.
“Palettes of paint always look like abstract art to me.”
I love that line so much! I see art in so much looking at things like that. All the white space, and the spaces in between, and the intentional space. My last bathroom’s flooring showed me new pictures daily - shhh, don’t tell anyone! 🤣 Thank you for seeing the extra and speaking it.
I like your painting, looking forward to seeing the finished.
Hi, Kate! Thank you so much, I'm so glad you like how the painting is coming along. :D
I also love to hear that I'm not alone in seeing art in unintentional splashes of paint. It's almost like a Rorschach test. It allows my mind to feel loose and playful and see wonky figures and ideas.
I absolutely see images in floor and shower tiling! ALL THE TIME! There's a little gash in my shower tile that looks like a little gasping expression and I have the hardest time not staring at it every day, like... aw, poor guy, lol.
Love the set-up!
Yes... artists are the worst at getting out of our own way.
I remember reading Jessica Abel's "Obstacles for Artists for Completing Creative Projects" --- https://jessicaabel.com/engine-masterclass/
Hi Jason! I'm glad to hear I'm not alone in this 'getting in our own way' issue.
Sometimes my neuroses feel so silly I think there couldn't POSSIBLY be others like this?!
I'm starting this video right now!
Oh man it already sounds so academic, which is my happy place.
Worksheets! Tell me more, Jessica!
