So, it's kinda like this:

The name of your newsletter matches perfectly with my dieting mantra: No more donuts unless I really want them sometime after I open my eyes in the morning. Your newsletter is a good, honest donut that gets the job done and sweetens the day. Donuts (& SFB posts) )are meant to be shared.

It may be due to my sugary brain fog, but I can't remember how I found your newsletter. I do like to draw my own cartoons so I seek out cartoonists who do really interesting things, so that may be it. Or, it could have been the Substack feature, so, if it was that, yay for Substack!

Favorite SFB posts? Least favorite? Let me put it this way: Even the hollowed out center of a donut has value as a bite-sized doughy ball of questionable nourishment, but should be shared with sprinkles. Thanks for sharing it all.

Good, honest donut!

This is peak flattery, John, thank you!! I'm so glad you're here.

I'm not sure why I even asked ppl how they found SFB because I don't remember how I stumbled across most of the Substacks I follow either... but I guess it doesn't hurt, hehhh. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Thank you, Michael!!

I hadn't even considered sharing the story until I told my husband it recently and he was like, "why don't you share that?" and I immediately channeled the Tim & Eric head exploding gif.

Thank you so much, Scott! How's Portugal treating you? I did just read your last post though, so maybe I'm pretty up-to-date, heh.

I still want to visit Portugal so bad it's KILLING ME.

Portugal's a good place to be in many ways. You should absolutely come visit. There's something here for everyone. What do you like to do on vacation? Explore a bustling metropolis? Hit the beach? Take a multi-country tour? It's easy to do any of those things (and more) using Portugal as a base.

I like visiting museums, pretending to be local at little cafes, riding the local transit, taking pictures of architecture, lounging in parks. All the good stuff! Oh, and definitely fitting in other countries given how far Europe is from CA!

I read on your Substack that it's hard to be a vegetarian in Portugal though, and that would definitely be a struggle for me. I live and die by my fruits and veggies, haha.

It's actually not hard to be a vegetarian on vacation in Portugal as there are tons of great vegetarian restaurants. Cooking vegetarian all the time might be a bit more challenging because finding good veggies in supermarkets isn't always easy. But there are probably mercados we haven't seen that have better veggies than the supermarkets.

So nope. Not a good reason to not come. Try again. 😂

Thank you so much, Mitchell!

I'm so glad you liked the New Yorker party post!

Wildly enough, I almost didn't think to share it-- but I fortunately have thoughtful and kind people in my life who remind me that I have stories worth sharing.

It makes me very happy.

It's funny because I love other people's personal stories.

It can be a strange mental block convincing yourself that your own stories matter sometimes.

Pat we are very similar if you deeply resonate with the convergence of hope and high thoughts, haha.

"Do my gut microbes also get high when I do" is a GENIUS question! I guess for that matter do any of the microbes living on us get high when we do? I can only hope so, for their sake.

The chair I'm sitting in in that drawing is a papsan and it is definitely made for deep hibernation.

My husband has a PhD in physics so I am constantly asking him high questions like, "why does gravity exist". It's basically like my form of bedtime story, lol. Sometimes we actually watch physics videos together when we're falling asleep, haha, it's great. I cannot lie.

Omg, laundry of course. The "how do astronauts..." questions are truly endless. I feel like I learned once how they pee, but I don't remember so at the moment I just image something scary or gross, hahaha.
