Ahh, the cursed heatwave of Southern California has finally been lifted— and by the fringes of a hurricane no less.
Climate change; ever the pleasure.
So we have reached our fourth of four segments: The Sketchbook Exposé.
I only looked through one sketchbook today, so these drawings are all from 2016-2017.
These kinds of doodles are what constitute most of my sketchbooks. They are a bunch of half-baked ideas and sketch work as loose as what comes of your late-night Taco Bell orders.
I often invent characters and worlds for my own entertainment that don’t necessarily go anywhere. This is both a form of play and a method for generating bigger ideas.
This is also where I draw for the sake of drawing— something I hate to say I haven’t done in a long time. Life drawing is one of my favorite activities, but it can be hard when you don’t have a model.
I recently moved from San Francisco to Southern California and I still haven’t found my footing here. I long to find places to draw the world around me, but my anxiety and shyness are powerful forces I’m continually at war with.
Despite my ever-present anxieties, I know I need to push through the discomfort and hold myself accountable for living the kind of life I want to live.
This week I am going to find a place to practice art and meet other artists. I will update you all next week to hold myself accountable.
Is there anything you would like to hold yourself accountable for? Leave a comment below and we’ll help hold each other accountable!
