Pregnancy & Postpartum Comics
Throwback To A Very Unique Life Phase
I’m reading a really great book called, “Matrescence” by Lucy Jones.
It’s a deep dive analysis on how intensely your mind and body change when you carry, birth, and raise a child.
There is a lot of good information in the book, but something I am reading over and over again is how much new mothers feel isolated and alone in their experiences.
I think about it a lot.
I think about loneliness in general a lot.
It’s one of the main reasons I love reading, writing, and art— because it’s a form of connection that we share with one another to feel less alone.
Reading about maternal loneliness reminded me that I have a ton of comics I made during my pregnancy and early postpartum period that I only shared on IG Stories one time, years ago.
I thought I’d put them together here for anyone who is going through matrescence and feels alone— and also for anyone who just loves autobio comics!
Hope you enjoy!… Or don’t!

Dysphoric Milk Ejection Reflex:
I heard a lot of new mothers say that using a breast pump made them feel like cows, which made them feel gross and bad.
I like cows, I think they’re cute, so I didn’t mind this mental relation.

What are your experiences with pregnancy/postpartum?
Or your experiences supporting a partner experiencing these things?
Anyone going through this right now??

Firstly, I don't know what the big deal is, pregnancy and postpartum were pretty easy for me.
Secondly, those women were talking on the corner for SO LONG. They were standing the whole time! It was hours!
These are so good. It’s been 23 years since I was post-partum and yet you’ve helped me to remember it like it was yesterday!
